The Montreux Jazz Festival library is the largest testimony of live music recorded on the same stage, both in audio and video, for the past 44 years (more than 4'000 bands among others were filmed in Montreux resulting in 10'000 recording tapes).Despite the use of the best state of the art technologies at the time of each recording, there is urgency for their safeguard. Montreux Sounds and EPFL (Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) have joined forces to create a first of a kind digital archive in super high definition, at least four times higher resolution when compared to HDTV (High Definition TV).This new venture will be presented during the Multimedia Workshop "When past becomes future" on: Sunday, July 15th, 2007, at 5pm, at the Petit Palais (across from the Montreux Palace Hotel)

We've all already heard the words JPEG and MPEG but do we really know what they mean? Mr. Ebrahimi, a Professor in the treatment of multimedia signals at the EPFL, gave light to these words. He said JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) is the acronym for a normalization committee that belongs to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) both in Geneva.
